The Marvel Cinematic Universe is vast, very vast. The latter is therefore divided into several sagas and phases that follow a narrative arc. Here is the list of all the films composing phase 4 of the MCU, in order of release, with several information (synopsis, simplified data sheet and global distribution) about them.
Phase 4 of the MCU is literally a transition phase. New formats, new characters and no Avengers movie. This phase introduces the very first truly interconnected series (with the movies) of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 4 is part of the Multiverse saga.
This new phase begins with a very special series, WandaVision, taking place only three weeks after the events of Avengers: Endgame. It is closely followed by the Disney+ series Falcon and the Winter Soldier which takes place, six months after Avengers: Endgame. Then comes another series, a consequence of the pandemic because the films could not be released in cinemas, in the presence of Loki! The latter also takes place after Endgame and will have huge impacts for the continuation of phase 4 and the saga of the Multiverse.
Then we finally have the movie Black Widow, then taking place between Civil War and InfinityWar, and which introduces new characters like Yelena Belova, who we see again later in the Hawkeye series. After the films are Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and The Eternals, which pave the way for new characters and immense possibilities to discover in the MCU.
Then comes the animated series What If..?, which explores other realities. Finally, Hawkeye has the right to his own show, with Kate Bishop, which was released at the end of November 2021… To complete the first year of Phase 4, Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on December 15 and brings back the iconic Spider-Man of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. This is the first film of phase 4 that deals concretely with the multiverse. We find the series Moon Knight, worn by Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke, released on March 30, 2022.
The last episode of this series is released on May 4, 2022, the same day as the next film of the MCU, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the second film of phase 4 and the saga of the multiverse to really talk about the other universes, to explore them, even to meet characters not yet introduced in the main timeline of the MCU such as Charles Xavier or Reed Richards . It is from this that we know that the main earth of the MCU is Earth-616.
Comes after the Miss Marvel series that introduces Kamala Khan, a huge fan of the Avengers and especially Captain Marvel. Note that the series briefly deals with other worlds and therefore multiverses and that the concept of mutation is introduced in the last episode. We find more lightness with Thor: Love and Thunder, released on July 13, 2022. We briefly find the Guardians of the Galaxy at the beginning of it, but also the return of Jane Foster who becomes Thor. The end of the film sets up a confrontation between Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Hercules, son of Zeus.
We remain in the lightness with the release of the series She-Hulk: Lawyer on August 17, 2022, which manages to bring back the character of Matt Murdock / Daredevil.Wong also appears in the series. Finally, the final film in Phase 4 is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which follows the struggle of Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku., Okoye and Dora Milaje to protect their nation following the death of King T’Challa and chart a new course for the Kingdom of Wakanda.
The movie will also introduce the characters of Namor, Attuma and probably that of Doctor Doom. Phase 4 therefore runs from January 2021 to November 2022. It is the shortest phase in terms of time but the longest and expanded in terms of projects with 15 productions including 7 films, 7 live-action series and 1 animated series.
