MCU – PHASE 3

mcu phase 3

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is vast, very vast. It includes 23 movies, and will have 29 by the end of 2021. The latter is therefore divided into several phases that follow a narrative arc. Here is the list of all the films composing phase 3 of the MCU, in order of release, with several information (synopsis, simplified datasheet and global distribution) about them.

This phase follows the adventures of the Avengers after the second crossover (Avengers: Age of Ultron – 2015). This is the phase that contains the most films. It is also the final phase of the Infinity Saga, which ends with the movie Spider-Man: Far From Home. After the single-player movies, this part of the MCU focuses more on the hero groupings and the universe around it, unlike the previous phases where the movies were really more focused on one or more heroes. Captain America: Civil War is one of the most important films, indeed, it shows the split of the Avengers into two camps, but also the introduction of two new major characters in the presence of Spider-Man and Black Panther. And for the first time, the MCU also expands on the mystical side with the movie Doctor Strange which opens the way to many possibilities for the future. There is also a sequel for Guardians of the Galaxy and also for Ant-Man. Phase 3 also introduces a superheroine for the first time in her own solo film: Captain Marvel.

Finally, the main focus of this phase is the long-awaited confrontation between Thanos and the Avengers which takes place in two films, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. It is good to know that initially Infinity War and Endgame were called Avengers: Infinity War part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War part 2 respectively.
