While Shazam! is about to land in our movie theaters, the project that is linked to a film on Black Adam will have to turn into reality, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson could put on his costume next year.
Producer Hiram Garcia has stated that they are moving forward on big projects including Black Adam and that their goal is to launch it at the beginning of the year 2020. The script seems to be well built and it does not miss more than tweaking it and finding the right director for the project. It’s a long time to wait for a project that looks well advanced, but Warner surely prefers to analyze the performance of Shazam! at the box office first, not to mention the fact that The Rock is someone very busy, having chained the filming of Hobbs and Shaw with that of the next Jumanji at this time.
BLACK ADAM IN HERO
In the same interview, Garcia says that many people already consider Dwayne a superhero, so it’s a dream to see him playing on the screen. So we would be entitled, a priori, to a Black Adam still heroic as we have seen on some occasions. Although the character is perhaps the least Manichean of the DC Universe, some might be surprised to see him in this position, being more often connoted super-villain. It will remain to be seen if we will see a hero sinking and abusing his powers or if his film version drastically changes his behavior, just to keep the positive image of his interpreter.
In the meantime, you will find Shazam! in the cinema on April 3, which was also entitled to a sneak peek tonight.
